About

Yoga Records has been a part of the effort of retelling the story of popular music for nearly 15 years. After launching as a digital label in 2008, the first Yoga LP, Collie Ryan’s The Hour Is Now, arrived in 2009. The label’s first major hit, by Detroit folk rock legend Ted Lucas, came out in 2010, the same year Yoga began a 12 record collaboration with Chicago’s fabled Drag City.

Los Angeles-based label founder Douglas Mcgowan gave the first lecture arguing for a reconsideration of new age music at the 2011 Popcon, and forever altered the genre’s storyline with I Am The Center: Private Issue New Age In America 1950-1990 for Light In The Attic in 2013.

These successes led to Mcgowan being recruited by the Numero Group, where he has served as VP of west coast A&R since 2015, signing and producing dozens of records by artists like Joanna Brouk, Laraaji, Joseph Washington Jr, Rupa, Female Species, Branko Mataja, and Peter Barclay. In 2019 Mcgowan earned a Grammy nomination for best historic album with the definitive collection of music by Jackie Shane, Any Other Way (Numero), and another the following year for the Kankyo Ongaku compilation (LITA).

Chief Operating Officer / Designer Tyler Craft is based in Taos and operates the First & Last Records label. A master programmer, Craft is a veteran of numerous major silicon valley firms, including two separate terms of employment with Facebook (quit both times). In 2018 Mcgowan teamed with Craft on the worldwide #1 best selling Environments app for Numero Group. That same year Craft and Mcgowan also collaborated on the Peter Kardas LP I Saw You.

Starting with Talvé’s Naked In The Park, 2023 will see the release of no less than five incredible new LPs from the label, with many more game changing projects on the way.
